Taught guitar by his father, Mike developed a deep appreciation for country and bluegrass music from an early age, spending countless evenings playing traditional tunes at home in Louisville. As a teenager, he expanded his musical repertoire by performing in rock 'n' roll bands, yet his passion for bluegrass remained a constant throughout his life.
At nineteen, inspired by the iconic sound of dueling banjos, Mike picked up his first banjo and quickly became an active member of the bluegrass community. In addition to his musical pursuits, Mike has managed lumber companies for more than forty years, consistently balancing his professional responsibilities with his dedication to music. Relocating to Louisville in the early 1970s, Dave joined the Bluegrass Alliance and later performed with “The Cumberlands.” His creative drive led him to form “A Touch of Grass,” and after another period with The Cumberlands, he established “Pickett’s Crossing.” Although the band paused for a few years due to changes in membership, Dave continued his musical pursuits by playing guitar with “Kentucky Blue,” where he remains an active member.
Occasionally, Pickett’s Crossing reunites for special events and jam sessions. Dave’s love for the banjo, bluegrass music, and smallmouth bass fishing in local streams continues to inspire his life and performances.
